Most Hated Family in America- BBC
THE VIDEO LINKS IN THIS ARTICLE HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY YOUTUBE- I’M LOOKING FOR NEW ONES!
Film maker Louis Theroux has recently documented the Fred Phelps family of Topeka, Kansas. The Phelps family is the Westboro Baptist Church of “God Hates Fags” fame. The film is divided here into six parts, each of which is 8-10 minutes in length. They are worth watching for two reasons:
1. Westboro Baptist is a popular culture phenomenon. Often in the news for picketing the funerals of soldiers, the church/family manipulates the media, and the media acquiesce. So, why am I contributing to their publicity? Actually, the Phelps family hates this documentary, that’s why. Louis Theroux has allowed the family to tell their own story, and the camera is most revealing.
2. Westboro’s message from the Bible is a literal one, and a consistent one. Those who pick and choose which verses they choose to take literally and which they take metaphorically are, according to the WBC, full of baloney. Theirs is a fundamentalism that places the literal admonishment, warnings, and retributions of the Old Testament far above the grace and love of the New Testament. In some ways, as horrid as the church is, it is a logical extension of a literal reading of the Old Testament.
Now, among other admonitions in Leviticus and Numbers, from which the WBC derives its “God Hates Fags” trademark posters, there are also severe warnings about the eating of shrimp, oysters, and pork and dire warnings about tattoos and the mixing of fabrics on one’s body. I am, at this moment, wearing a cotton/rayon blend shirt. I guess, if the WBC is consistent, they will consider me headed for hell, too. (Well, they probably do anyway, but y’knowwhatImsayin?)

A Bonus! The Family sings, “God Hates the World!” Sing along !
I just watched the 7-part movie. That was great. I just loved it. I love the Phelp’s and their family, the whole group.
We don’t have much longer to wait for the Lord’s return, so just keep picketing and preaching truth, and I hope to see you all on the other side, and what a day that will be. Glory to God!

Well, ya know, unless the Phelps’s underwear is loose and falling, it’s a pretty safe bet they wear cotton and latex or spandex mixed.
I have this . . . not dream, really . . . sort of a Phelps nightmare, that one morning they will awaken and realize all their colleagues are sinners, wearing mixed fabrics, eating shellfish on occasion, and they’ll picket each other to death.
And no one at all will go to their funerals.
Hahaha! The mixed fabric admonitions will sweep up just about everyone, won’t they?
I’m happy to join you n that Phelp’s nightmare scenario. I know there is hope for all of us, but for some of those peole it seems to be fading quickly.
And, no, I don’t know about Texas faith Network..
They’re a bunch of simple-minded idiots who give religion a bad name.
If there is a hell, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them all end up there.
